Center for Preventive Medical Sciences

The Center for Preventive Medical Sciences is Chiba University's interdisciplinary education and research facility, and it was established in June 2007. The aim of the center is to promote forming healthy towns by applying preventive medicine while proving the effects. The center's activity will contribute to the establishment and spread of local community cooperative preventive medicine system in Japan. The center will promote cohort study in cooperation with the local municipality, which is important in the research of preventive medicine, under the concept of "health of body, mind and environment good for health". Also, the center will provide necessary information and the opportunity of study so that the citizens can practice the preventive medicine by themselves. The center will form the preventive medicine network with the cooperation of municipalities, which will eventually promote the health of people in the area.
The Ministry of the Environment has started Japan Environment and Children's Study (JECS) which is a long term national cohort study about the environmental contamination and children's health. JECS will follow 100,000 children's health before their birth until they become 13 years old. The Center for Preventive Medical Sciences was chosen as one of the 15 regional unit-centers of JECS and has started cohort study in Chiba Prefecture from 2010.
